A reel record: know the equipment you already own

A short equipment card helps separate specification, maintenance and preference.

Identify the item

Record the model and the relevant manufacturer’s guidance. Do not infer suitability from a picture of another person’s setup. The intended conditions and permitted methods matter. A card is a way to keep information together, not a substitute for advice about unfamiliar equipment.

Inspection is concrete

Write down the actual point checked or the issue noticed. Avoid a vague entry such as “everything good” if it will not help later. Do not perform a hurried improvised repair beside the water. Follow the instructions and address doubts before the next outing.

Keep preferences separate

A handle or storage arrangement may suit your routine without being universally better. Mark that as a personal observation. Over time, the record can explain why you use an item and what it needs, instead of becoming a list of new things to buy.
